En Voyage "Adonia":
I was invited by Fathom Travel to experience and explore their mission: To bring awareness the island by being hands on with the community. Was such a smooth sail across the ocean. The cabin was a pretty decent size and was cozy. Wifi was also included. :)
All "White" Dinner at one of their fancy restaurants; Ocean Grill. The menu is heavy on pork and seafood, staples of the Caribbean. I opted for seafood.
Volunteer Day 1: Recycled Paper and Crafts Entrepreneurship. Took a bus ride to "RePapel" to help make creative paper goods out of recycled papers. Artisans have a safe workshop for their labor and a market for their products. These are then sold and the women are able to make a living. :)
Volunteer Day 2: Cacao and Women's Chocolate Cooperative. I was in chocolate heaven from beginning to end. 32,575cacao seeds have been planted in the nursery that services Chocal and I was able to be a part of that. After the cocoa seeds are picked, they're prepared and packaged for sale.
A little fun in-between at 27 Charcos a.k.a Waterfalls. I'm not into jumping off cliffs... so my way down was a bit slow and SAFE! Lol. The waterfalls are so beautiful and we had 3 guides helping is along the way.
Last day of volunteering. Was looking forward to this part! I was able to to meet a few students and teach each other English and Spanish. The students were a melting pot of beauty and reminded me of when I went to school in Jamaica.
Until next time Dominican Republic. Its been fun! :)
